An incredibly romantic 5* hotel in a stunning location with stupendous views of the Amalfi coast

Palazzo Avino is a stunning five-star deluxe hotel on Italy’s famed Amalfi coast. Built in what was once a 12th century private villa for an Italian noble family and opened as a hotel in 1997, Palazzo Avino has been landed as one of the world’s finest hotels and boasts one-star Michelin dining. Tucked away in the medieval hilltop village of Ravello, perched high on the cliffs, 350 m (1,000 ft) above the sparkling Mediterranean, Palazzo Avino overlooks some of the coast’s most picturesque fishing villages.

Originally built in the 12th Century, Palazzo Avino, like many other buildings along San Giovanni del Toro, was part of the aristocratic quarter of Ravello during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Some original rooms remain, such as the entrance hall and a small bathroom used as a cellar in the restaurant.

The recently redecorated Capsule Collection suites have made this 12th century Palazzo even more alluring. Mariella and Attilia Avino asked renowned designer Cristina Celestio to return to the Pink Palace (after the success of the Pink Closet, a boutique within Palazzo Avino) to work across a collection of the hotel’s best suites, and they are just as compelling. The rooms’ internal architecture is beautiful, with marble floors, high vaulted ceilings and gothic-arched openings that break up the various areas within the suites. Celestino has incorporated one of three palettes into each suite, aquamarine, coral and sand, and each interior also features some of the hotel’s collection of fine antiques.

Accommodation

There are 33 rooms and 10 suites, all beautifully appointed, with either mountain or sea views. All suites overlook the sea as standard and most have a terrace upon which you can sit and soak up the views.

All rooms and suites are decorated with hand-made Vietri tiles, antique carpets, furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries and brass accessories and appliances. Frette Linen and Dr. Vranjes amenities, satellite TV, safe, minibar, internet access and iPhone docking stations are also available in each room.

Deluxe Rooms have a sea view and have large windows with enchanting vistas of the Mediterranean Sea. All bathrooms have either a jacuzzi bath or a jacuzzi shower.

The Infinito Suite

Our favourite suite is the Infinito Suite, the largest and most beautiful suite in the hotel, measuring over 1,000sqft with a terrace of over 500sqft. Situated on the top floor of the building, this bi-level suite is composed of one large living room including a dining area, one bedroom and one large bathroom with both a jacuzzi bath and separate large shower. There is also an additional guest bathroom in the living room area.

On the top floor there is a relaxing area that leads onto a very large private outdoor terrace with an amazing view over the Amalfi Coast. Ideal for romance, the terrace features a jacuzzi hot tub and a large dining area – perfect for private dinners. This suite is equipped with plasma screens and Bose Hi-Fi in all areas.

Dining

There is so much to do on the doorstep of the hotel in Ravello with various activities in the area, most of which revolve around food! Pompeii is of course a must and there are various wine tasting opportunities in Tramonti mainly. The mozzarella farm is a favourite and this can be done with Paestum as they are in the same region.

Sea of Love

For their array colours, silhouettes and stunning vistas, no two sunsets are ever the same. Perched high on the cliffs, some 1000 feet above sea level, the “Sunset Table” at Palazzo Avino’s offers the ultimate spot to catch the last rays of sunshine as they disappear into the azure blue waters below. Set atop the rooftop of the pink palace, it is one of the most secluded and romantic dining experiences in the region with sweeping views across the Amalfi Coastline. Upon arrival, Head Chef Giovanni Vanacore will take guests on a culinary journey as he prepares an exquisite Italian meal tailored to suit each diner’s tastes.

Wine connoisseurs will have a chance to consult with the Head Sommelier as he pairs each dish with local wines
from the region. One of the Amalfi’s best kept secrets, the “Sunset Table” is the perfect location to marvel at the
area’s breath-taking scenery.

Experience at the Chef’s Table

Sitting only four diners, the Chef’s Table at Palazzo Avino’s Rossellini’s is one the most exclusive and exciting dining experiences on the Amalfi Coast. Awarding complete privacy from the rest of the restaurant, a special menu has been created based on an ancient Neapolitan game, La Tombola. Like bingo, numbers cor respond to each dish taking diners on their own unique culinary journey fusing local seasonal ingredients with creative contemporary cooking techniques.

A treat for the eyes, dishes are exquisitely presented as diners play the culinary game and are served a tasting menu of 5-7 different regional plates which are hand-picked with regional wines that are paired with each serving.

The ceramic culinary game and dishes have been specially created by a local ceramic artist, Lucio Liguori, in nearby Raito. Using ancient techniques dating back centuries, the artist has designed beautiful emerald green ceramics exclusively made for Palazzo Avino’s chef’s table. A treat for the eyes, dishes are exquisitely presented as diners play the culinary game and are served a tasting menu of 5-7 different regional plates which are hand-picked with regional wines that are paired with each serving. One of the most notable restaurants in the area, Rosselini’s has become internationally renowned for its authentic Italian cuisine.
