A beautiful owner-run hotel overlooking the gorgeous azure blue Ionian Channel and delightful Fiskardo harbour
For an unforgettable holiday, look no further than Fiskardo. This beautiful harbour with its waterfront restaurants and boutique shops is perched on the northernmost tip of Kefalonia and is perfectly positioned for stunning views of Ithaca and Lefkas. Isolated from the rest of the island, Kefalonia was spared the devastation of the 1952 earthquake and its properties remain just as beautiful today as they were since construction. Fiskardo is a regular stopping-off point for flotillas in shoulder seasons and super yachts in the height of the summer: perfect for people-watching.
The Almyra Hotel is located on a cypress-covered hillside amidst orange groves overlooking Fiskardo. It is overseen by the extremely affable Elina who designed the 27 rooms and suites to perfection in relaxing neutral shades, complimented by pieces of art and subtle lighting. She is on hand to welcome guests and assist in making your holiday truly perfect. The hotel’s two pools overlook the most gorgeous views – you won’t want to leave – but should you decide to tear yourself away, a shuttle bus operates every day to take you down to the harbour (and back up again!) where you can enjoy dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants. Guests at the Almyra qualify for a discount at Tassia’s superb restaurant: try their octopus marinated in wine, garlic and sun-dried tomatoes, served with a puree of chickpeas.
Elena will be happy to arrange a variety of activities and excursions including motor boat hire. This is a wonderful way to explore: waters are calm and, unlike car hire, no paperwork is required to hire a motor boat. We recommend picking up a couple of feta cheese and spinach pies from one of the bakeries and zipping over to Ithaca for breakfast, washing the crumbs off afterwards with a dip in the sea; the hotel will also happily make you a picnic lunch to take with you. The hotel organises a weekly bbq on the terrace during the summer months and can help with car hire and suggestions for local walks.
The Almyra Hotel is owned by Polychronis and Elina, whose family runs one of Fiscardo’s most popular harbor side restaurants, Tassia’s. In fact the restaurant is named after the head chef, Tassia, (Polychronis’ sister) who is a minor celebrity – she is a published cookery book author and hosts a Greek television food programmed.
At the hotel, lunch, snacks and afternoon tea are served throughout the day and the hotel prepares excellent picnic baskets (payable locally) for when you wish to explore the island by road or boat. The Almyra Terrace Restaurant opens one evening per week with a special themed barbeque evening serving excellent Cephalonian fare.
