The ancient estate of Reschio stretches over 3,750 acres of oak forests and olive groves in Italy’s Umbrian hills. With one of Europe’s finest stables at its heart, Reschio is home to the Bolza family who, over the last twenty years, have restored its secluded ancient Umbrian farmhouses into masterpieces of contemporary architecture and design.
Reschio is an idyllic family retreat. From riding and tennis lessons, to wild hiking and biking, Reshio is the place for families to go free-range. The estate team can arrange all sorts of ways of entertaining the kids on the estate, while the child-friendly excursions can bring the region to life for young, inquisitive minds.
Accommodation
The rooms, suites and villas on this ancient estate are imbued with personality and panache, thanks to an organic approach to contemporary design coupled with a discerning nod to the intriguing characters who once called this home.
Stay in rooms or suites inside the castle, either on the ground or second floor, overlooking the garden courtyard and far reaching views over the Reschio hills. Custom-designed furniture includes a four-poster campaign bed, drinks bar, the marble & brass basin wash stand and in most rooms a dressing table. There are also antique and historic pieces in all rooms.
Six Suites San Michele are outside the castle’s ramparts in the former Vestry, adjacent to the San Michele Church. These suites have heart-soaring views along the Niccone valley, and those on the ground floor have their own private gardens.
Spa
The castle’s ancient wine cellars, below the Palm Court, have been transformed into an otherworldly Bathhouse, a steamy, dreamy retreat. Worn stone steps lead down to a tranquil sanctuary of therapeutic interconnecting spaces, offering holistic, nurturing treatments to soothe both body and soul.
The star of the show is the large, ethereal salt-water pool, lit by high-up windows allowing atmospheric shafts of sunlight to slant into the space. Sink into the water and float across through a vaulted stone arch, to wallow in the connected circular base of the three-storey tower. Sit on the marble benches in the warm water and gaze up at the walls, flooded with natural light from up high and from a window beneath the water level – or release the tropical rain shower, which cascades dramatically from the ceiling
Equestrian & Other Activities at Reschio
Reschio’s outstanding stables are home to some of Italy’s finest dressage horses. Lessons, wild hacks across the estate and early evening performances will introduce you to these magnificent animals. Experienced and novice equestrians alike will be enchanted by the horses in such stunning surroundings.
Located next door to Ristorante Alle Scuderie, Reschio’s cookery school will take you on creative foraging walks in the grounds to pick what takes your fancy, show you how to create a variety of dishes, and transform the best of the region’s produce into scrumptious Italian meals.
Play tennis on the astroturf courts, available for hire to guests, either for a knock-about with friends or for lessons with an experienced tennis coach. Or swim in the idyllic outdoor pool, the castle reflected on the water surface.

Dining at Reschio
Ristorante Al Castello sits among the western ramparts, which echo with 1000 years of history. The restaurant enjoys amazing tranquil views with stunning sunsets and fig trees gloriously perfume the terrace in summer. Here castle-dwellers are tempted each morning by a splendid buffet breakfast. The restaurant serves traditional Italian specialities each evening, with ingredients sourced from the estate or nearby.
Step into the cool shade of Ristorante Alle Scuderie and take a seat amongst the lofty fern-trees, head out onto the broad terrace or perch at the long, marble Bar Centrale. With soaring ceilings, hand-crafted furniture and wide-reaching views, it exudes an air of old-world Italian glamour. Produce from the organic kitchen garden creates simple menus with elegant touches, and pizzas straight from the outdoor oven.
