Located between the 38th and 52nd floors of this building, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel affords the best cityscape views of Tokyo, especially at night.
Coupled with a lively bar, great restaurants and a view from the spa unlike any other, you know you’ll feel like you’re in heaven here.
The Mandarin Oriental, situated on the top eight floors of the Mitsui Nihonbashi Tower, has a prime location in the cultural and financial district of Tokyo, close to the famous Ginza shopping area and not far from the Imperial Palace also. All round, it’s hard to beat this placement in Tokyo.
The hotel’s main advantage over its competitors is the vantage point gained by all rooms which without exception have city views stretching as far as the eye can see. Having been greeted on the ground level where the hotel has its own lobby area and taxi/ limousine station, you will be whisked to your room in a state of the art lift to the checking in lobby on 38th floor, with your luggage sent separately and appearing in your room before you do.
There are 179 rooms, of five different sizes ranging from 50sqm up to 250sqm for the Presidential Suite. Every room is beautifully decked out: the corner suites are particularly nice with double aspect views and the bathrooms have a cityscape view as well, which other rooms do not.
All rooms have large LCD TV, small TV in the bathroom, surround sound stereo and DVD/ CD player, auto opening/closing blackout blinds and curtains, two phone lines, Wi-Fi (free), a desk, sofa, mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, air-conditioning and safe. More spacious rooms also have a large luggage area and walk-in wardrobe. You’ll get great bathroom products by Aromatherapy Associates, towel bathrobes, slippers and Yukatas for those that prefer something lighter. The Mandarin’s rooms offer one of the highest level of comfort in the city and arguably the best views.
There are six main dining options within the building, five of them on the 37th and 38th floors and an Italian on the 52nd. The pick of the bunch is the Michelin starred ‘Signature’ French restaurant, with stunning views of the night sky and city lights while you dine of very exquisite French cuisine. The Tapas Molecular Bar is housed within the main bar (Oriental) and is something of a cult place since opening; reservations are hard to come by since it only seats a lucky eight people who watch as the chefs prepare tapas-sized morsels from Asia and around the globe. The Mandarin Bar serves excellent bar food and there is an all day restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner, often with a buffet. Finally there is a Cantonese restaurant so a sumptuous choice for all tastes.
The hotel’s spa is an incredible 13,000 square feet housing nine treatment rooms, vitality and tonic pools, saunas, crystal steam rooms, rainfall showers and an ice fountain. You are recommended to arrive an hour before your treatment is scheduled so you have a consultation and also experience these water based facilities and relax before you even start treatment.
There are five suites with city views of varying sizes with different features, sizes and views. The four remaining treatment rooms are inner sanctums where no light can penetrate giving a little more calm during the day at least. There are five signature treatments and an a la carte menu to rival any, including wraps, scrubs and beauty treatments as well as the usual body massages and reflexology.
For anyone staying in Tokyo wanting 5* luxury and service with a great location, The Mandarin has it all. The views from the bedrooms are simply the icing on the cake.
