A world-class destination on the iconic Garden Route

Just 18km East of the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay along the renowned holiday destination of the Garden Route is Hog Hollow Country Lodge, set in a private nature reserve, on the edge of indigenous forest with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and Tsitsikamma Mountains.

Suites

The sixteen suites are situated in the gardens surrounding the main house. Decorated in earthy colours, with hand crafted artefacts scattered throughout. All feature king size beds (or twin if you prefer), hairdryer, wi-fi, air conditioning, hi-fi, a stocked mini bar, and a tea/coffee station with delicious homemade biscuits and popcorn in tightly sealed jars as the monkeys do LOVE to eat them too. There is no TV, but there is good Wi-Fi and a South African bedtime story on your pillow each evening (don’t worry we won’t test you!). Sit out on your private wooden deck listening to the sounds of a garden humming with life, enveloped in the warmth of the African sun.

There are three double storey suites suitable for families with children aged 12 or under sharing with their parents. Mum and dad accommodated upstairs in the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Children are accommodated downstairs on a double sleeper couch and an ottoman, slightly shorter than a single bed. The whole family share the same bathroom facilities.

The hotel offers baby-sitting, special turn downs each evening with a glass of fresh milk, a Gingerbread man, children’s stories and a whole box of toys and other interesting things, along with buckets, spades and body boards for those lazy family days at the beach. For the TV, there is a children’s playroom in the main lodge area.

Dining

Hog Hollow is well known for its delectable food. A splendid breakfast mini-buffet on your table awaits with all the little special treats and, of course, a bit of bubbly to begin the day. Of course, there’s a seriously scrumptious variety in the hot breakfast section too. On crisp clear mornings, farmhouse breakfasts are served on the boma deck overlooking the forest and mountains, or near the fireplace when it’s cooler.

Let your host know if you have specific dietary requirements or allergies, the chefs are brilliant at tempting the most delicate of appetites.

As the day ends and the full splendour of the African stars shine down on the deck, your hosts invite you inside to wine and dine in the main house. At the centre of the Main House is the famously large dining room table, where guests from various locales interact in a convivial setting. Needless to say, the conversation is never boring! If communal dining is not your thing, there are many lovely areas where you can dine separately. Just ask your host. Normally dinner begins at 7pm, but ask your hosts if your require an earlier or later starting time.

The Boma Deck

Overlooking the Matjies River Gorge & the Tsitsikamma Mountains, this congenial hub is where it all happens. The boma deck is the place to check-in, sip some bubbly, or a good cup of tea, relax after a day’s outing, chat to newly found friends and catch up with family news – comfy chairs, a crackling fire and a sundowner in hand – what better way to end the day!

There are various places you can escape to: the far lounge with a pair of binoculars, or just your thoughts, or if there is an important sporting event there is a TV; or under the leafy ficus tree, a haven for birds – and for those who need a secret puff (we won’t tell);- or down at the pool; or out on the deck … there is a lot of delicious air to be breathed.

The Boma area leads down to the cool blue waters of the swimming pool where you may find others lazing about on sun loungers. Kick off your shoes, order an icy drink from the bar and relaaaaax…
