Location

Situated near Koggala, home of the famous stilt fishermen, it is ideally positioned to visit Yala National Park for some safari or Galle city which is much closer at only 20 minutes by tuk-tuk. With its impressive Dutch Fort, which The Fortress itself took some inspiration from, Galle is a pocket of culture and style that you can explore, should you ever want to leave the peaceful surroundings of the hotel.

With rooms starting at 50m2, most of them with sweeping ocean views, the hotel has an air of calm and sophistication within its courtyard walls. On entering the huge wooden gates, the view through the open air reception straight to the sea close by is one of the most iconic hotel introductions you will ever get!

Arrive in style

Whilst the new highway connecting Galle to Colombo is now open, cutting the journey time down to two hours, nothing beats arriving by seaplane. A majestic flight down the beautiful coastline brings you to within 15 minutes of the resort, having had the most amazing panoramic view of the west coast. Ask us for details.

Exploring

The hotel is located very close to one of the turtle hatcheries; whale watching can be done from this coastline in March. Yala National Park, home of many leopards amongst elephants and other animals, is a two hour drive away and well worth visiting for 1-2 days. We have some more excellent accommodation here.
