Safari: Botswana Okovango

Over seven days,  you’ll visit two locations within the Delta, each one offering a unique experience in the pristine wilderness. First you’ll stay at Mapula Lodge, deep in the Delta,  surrounded by floodplains, forested islands and sparkling waterways. Your next stop is the 220,000-hectare Khwai Private Reserve, where you’ll spend three nights at Sable Alley.

During your stay you’ll take game drives, looking for herds of browsing elephant, and seeking the predators that hide in the shadows, and you will also be able to take a walking safari along the Khwai River.

The Okovango Delta is the most iconic of Botswana’s safari destinations.  It’s waters rise and fall throughout the year, but wildlife is always abundant, and large herds of elephant, pods of hippo, a wide range of antelope and some of their predators, lion, leopard, and even wild dog, should be spotted during your safari.

Floating amongst the reeds and lilies in a mokoro is a wonderful way to while away a few hours, seeing the wildlife from a totally different perspective.

Both Mapula Lodge and Sable Alley are designed to make the most of their position in the landscape.

At Mapula Lodge, there are nine canvas-and-thatch bedroom tents, with king size metal four-posters and ensuite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and fabulous views across the Delta. There’s a swimming pool and a vast outdoor deck overlooking the lagoon for lazy afternoons and evenings.

Sable Alley overlooks a peaceful lagoon (in fact, sometimes it’s not so peaceful with all the wildlife action), and you can enjoy the views from one of the 12, ensuite tents, the swimming pool, or the stylish main area.
